What is Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)?

Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery is an advanced vision correction procedure available at OasisEye Specialists in Malaysia. Unlike traditional contact lenses that sit on the surface of your eye, an ICL is a micro-thin, biocompatible lens permanently placed inside the eye, positioned between the iris (the colored part) and your natural crystalline lens. The ICL is made from Collamer, a highly advanced, proprietary material composed of pure collagen and a hydrophilic polymer. Collamer is 100% biocompatible with the human eye, meaning it does not cause an immune reaction, reject, or induce dry eye syndrome. Additionally, the material features a built-in ultraviolet (UV) blocker that protects the delicate inner structures of your eye from harmful solar radiation.

Candidates must not have a history of glaucoma, iritis, or diabetic retinopathy.

The ICL surgery is a quick, outpatient procedure that is entirely painless. Before the surgery, our eye care specialists administer topical numbing eye drops to ensure total comfort. The ophthalmologist then makes a micro-incision of approximately 3mm in the cornea, inserts the folded ICL through the opening, and carefully positions it behind the iris. The incision is self-healing and requires no stitches, with the entire process taking about 15 to 30 minutes per eye.
